The HALO Shield Jacket is a premium technical garment built around a multi-layer construction that combines advanced conductive materials with everyday comfort and durability.


At its core are pure silver-fiber conductive fabric and a copper-nickel shielding layer, selected for their electrical conductivity, flexibility, and shielding characteristics across a broad range of radio frequencies. These layers are protected by a lightweight, water-repellent ripstop nylon outer shell, while a moisture-wicking inner lining ensures lasting comfort during extended wear.


Every component has been chosen with purpose—from the waterproof zipper and technical hood to the precision construction and reinforced seams. Rather than adding shielding to an existing jacket, HALO was engineered from the ground up as a single, integrated system.

      HALO Shield vs Vollebak: Two Approaches to Shielding Outerwear

      Electromagnetic shielding apparel remains a niche category, and few brands have turned conductive textiles into genuinely wearable technical outerwear.


      Vollebak is one of the best-known names in this space. Its £2,495 Shielding Jacket and Electromagnetic Shielding Bomber combine silver-plated Shieldex fabrics with the brand’s futuristic design language. The original jacket specifies shielding across 0.2–10 GHz, while the newer Bomber extends that range to 0.2–14 GHz.

      HALO takes a different approach. Rather than making shielding one experimental feature among many, the HALO Shield is built around a dedicated multilayer conductive system.

      Materials and performance

      Vollebak uses German-made silver-plated Shieldex textiles. Its original Shielding Jacket contains 17% silver plating, while the Bomber increases this to 18%.

      HALO instead uses two internal conductive layers: silver-fibre fabric and a separate copper-nickel shielding textile.

      The silver material is specified at approximately 70 dB average attenuation across 10 MHz–18 GHz, with surface resistance below 0.1 ohm. The copper-nickel layer is specified at approximately 85 dB attenuation with resistance below 0.03 ohm.

      These figures describe the conductive materials rather than guaranteeing identical performance from the completed garment, where seams, zippers and openings can influence shielding effectiveness. Even so, publishing attenuation and resistance data gives buyers more measurable information about the materials being used.

      Construction and design

      Vollebak makes the shielding textile the visual centrepiece. Its silver exterior creates an unmistakably futuristic appearance and reinforces the jacket’s experimental character.

      HALO hides its conductive system beneath a water-repellent ripstop nylon shell and above a breathable inner lining. The result is more understated and closer to conventional premium technical outerwear.

      Vollebak is designed to look experimental.

      HALO is designed to look wearable.

      Vollebak also benefits from established materials provenance, Italian construction, dedicated Faraday-style phone pockets and years of credibility developing clothing from materials such as graphene, Dyneema and copper.

      Value

      The biggest difference is price.

      Vollebak’s shielding jackets retail for £2,495.

      The HALO Shield is listed at approximately US$1,042.

      That puts HALO in a significantly lower price category while still using silver-based shielding material, adding a second copper-nickel conductive layer and publishing detailed attenuation specifications.

      Verdict

      Vollebak remains the stronger choice for buyers seeking experimental luxury, distinctive design, established brand credibility and unusual technical features.

      HALO makes the stronger case for buyers primarily interested in shielding materials, measurable specifications, understated design and value.

      Vollebak helped demonstrate that electromagnetic shielding could become fashion.

      HALO’s proposition is that it can become practical.
